The Revived Legend of Mukhrani

A history of the Bagrationi-Mukhranbatoni family and their estate at Mukhrani, written by historian Akaki Gelashvili and published for Château Mukhrani in 2024.

The book follows Ivane Mukhranbatoni’s palace, cellars and vineyards — from the medals of the 1889 Exposition universelle in Paris to the restored estate today. It is at once a family chronicle and an economic history of nineteenth-century Georgian winemaking.

The design moves between the archive and the present. Letters, ledgers, maps, plans of the cellars and old photographs sit beside contemporary photography of the palace and its vineyards, with quiet colour fields and generous margins that let the material carry the story.

260 pages, 210 × 250 mm. Translated from the Georgian by Thea Gagnidze; photography by Mirian Kiladze and Zurab Kartvelishvili. Published by Sandro’s Books.
